Imposter syndrome isn't entirely a bad thing

I started to reflect on myself and question whether I was being too harsh on myself, or whether the problem was not me but the environment I was in. Through the session, I realized that maybe imposter syndrome is not entirely a bad thing. The other side of me is still me: the part that keeps pushing me forward to become better. It was more of a mental shift. I now focus on my strengths instead of constantly comparing myself with others, because I believe everyone moves at their own pace.

AI as a second brain for reflection and ikigai

I started using AI as a second brain to reflect, organise my thoughts, and gain better clarity in my decision-making. The session also encouraged me to explore my Ikigai and better understand my strengths, interests, and purpose.

He taught me to stick my ground

I have never been a tech savvy person, but Edmund was patient in educating me to the world of AI and technology. He also helped me break through the stigma of using AI and taught me how to use it ethically.

Finishing a task isn't the same as doing it well

Edmund taught me that finishing a task isn't the same as doing it well. During a hackathon we did together, I watched him go above and beyond even on small details, like the video presentation and editing, things most people would consider 'good enough' and move on from. That stuck with me. Now I push myself the same way, going beyond what's asked to make sure what I deliver actually adds value.

Success isn't just knowledge — it's action and momentum

Edmund taught me to think beyond my own limitations. He reminded me that success isn’t just about having knowledge it’s about taking action, meeting inspiring people, and creating opportunities instead of waiting for them. That’s a mindset I carry with me now.

Seize opportunities even when you doubt your ability

Edmund taught me to seize every opportunity that arises, even in the absence of confidence in one's ability to perform well. I now consistently endeavor to exert my best effort and treat these opportunities as learning experiences, acknowledging that at the very least, I have attempted to push myself beyond my comfort zone.

Taught me how to vibe code — and how to handle adversity with grace

I first met Edmund when he was a speaker introducing the FinTech course to our cohort. His confidence and drive immediately stood out as he shared his experiences and insights with us juniors, and I’ve looked up to him ever since. But his impact didn't stop at that presentation because throughout my time in university, Edmund has been both an incredible senior and a dedicated mentor to me. He was one of the first people to teach me how to properly 'vibe code' and introduce me to the right tools and platforms. Beyond technical skills, he taught me how to effectively navigate the complexities of university life, showing me how to successfully manage my time and balance academics with my outside activities.

"Just do it" — his gap year pushed me out of my comfort zone

How immersed he is in the AI space I believe he is someone who has learnt AI rather than hearing from others or merely catching on the wave. He has taught me to 'just do it' especially with hackathons. His gap year experience too was really inspiring to step out of my comfort zone and move into coding or technical work. I visited his session at SIT on vibe coding and was able to build my own portfolio which im truly grateful he gave the opportunity for. :)

One workshop → my portfolio site, and a reason to be a better student

I attended the "Fintech from 0 to 1" workshop led by Edmund, and it was genuinely eye-opening. Through the workshop, I learned how to build and deploy my own portfolio website from scratch using modern "vibe coding" dev tools — something I'd always wanted to try but never knew where to start. The Hackathon Sharing segment was also a highlight, giving us real insight into what it takes to actually place in a hackathon, straight from past winners. Beyond the technical content, what stood out most was his passion outside the workshop itself. On the AC SMC side, he was always full of ideas for promoting our course and genuinely invested in helping it gain more exposure. Seeing that kind of dedication has pushed me to want to be a better student and a more active contributor to our course and school.

One of Edmund’s strengths that not many people know about is his genuinely kind heart!! He often goes out of his way to help people who are struggling or in need, whether it’s with academics or anything else, without expecting anything in return. I think this is a quality that many people sometimes take for granted. He’s also a really solid leader who genuinely wants to guide people onto the right path in life. He’s always willing to share the insights and lessons he’s gained from the various workshops he’s attended and the experiences he’s had, so that others can learn, grow, and avoid making the same mistakes. His willingness to give back and help others succeed is something I truly admire!!

It is difficult to narrow it down to a single instance, as throughout this entire experience I can recall numerous occasions where Edmund's contributions helped move the team closer to our goal. One contribution that pleasantly surprised me the most was his initiative to document all the calculations related to the problem statement. As someone already working in the industry, I found that level of detail both refreshing and impressive. Considering he had no prior knowledge of the topic, the effort and initiative he demonstrated were remarkable. It reflected not only his willingness to learn but also his commitment to ensuring the team had a clear understanding of the work. It is certainly the level of initiative and ownership I hope to see in future teammates.
